Vegetable Garden Is Beginning!

The vegetable garden currently doesn't look like much at all. In the next few days and coming weeks, it's going to get bigger and more plants will start to grow. This is the new site for my garden. So of course I'm going to have to battle weeds this year. Next year it will get better.

We have filled one giant grow bags up. It's approximately 4×2×1 with eight square foot holes. I'll post a picture of it on the next post. The bag was filled with a mixture of top soil and compost. I used six 40lb bags of topsoil and three 40lb bags of compost total. I am going to go back and add a little sand to each square and mix it in. Im avoiding using peat moss so that future problems with it can be avoided. I want the soil in the bags to be similar to what's in the ground. I did add a handful of all purpose fertilizer to each square to help the plants out.

What am I going to grow in the bags? I have some ideas but haven't fully decided yet. The goal of the entire garden this year is to have fresh vegetables to eat and enough to can and preserve to enjoy throughout the fall and winter until next year's garden. Soon enough, I will have to start planning what I want to grow in the fall and possibly into the winter.

I hope you keep visiting our site to watch the vegetable garden progress!

Tight Lines and God Bless!
